Description

Bakuhatsu Taiko Dan is a student-run, collegiate taiko group in UC Davis. Taiko is a traditional form of Japanese drumming, and our name "Bakuhatsu" roughly translates to "explosion" in Japanese, which represents the energy and enthusiasm we put into playing Taiko.

This year, we have titled our annual showcase "轟-todoroki-," which roughly translates to "ROAR." Following last year's spring concert titled Kokoro志(determination), Bakuhatsu spent this year focusing on our roots, and what it means to each member to contribute to our collective "roar", our heart, as a group. Through the development of each performer's voice this year, we have come together to show you, the audience, what it means to roar like a Bakuhatsu performer. Don't miss out!

Guest Collaborations of the night:

-JASS Jishin Yosakoi-Naming their group “Jishin," which translates to “Samurai Spirit", the Japanese American Student Society learns and performs Yosakoi, a fusion dance style incorporating modern aesthetics into a traditional Japanese dance form, and has hand-made their own costumes.

-Golden Turtle Lion Dance Association-Matthew Nguyen created the Lion Dance Club at UC Davis during the Winter Quarter of 2010 as a freshman. He had prior Lion Dance experience through the Far East Dragon Lion Dance Association (FEDLDA). In the 10th Annual Davis Dance Revolution Competition, Lion Dance Club took First place in the Traditional Set. LDC@UCD is now in it's sixth year of existence boasting a support group numbering in the hundreds, and a membership roster of approximately three dozen amazing individuals.
